After 4 long years, Asus waked up.
They released a new BIOS update, code: 207
Actually, this is not accurate.
About a month ago, they released another version, called 206 with the same description as the actual one (207): Optimize system performance
But after some days, they removed it. Just like it never existed. Maybe it had some faults? Possible.
UPDATE ABOUT 206 VERSION
As stated from KATARINA in the comments:
The 206 BIOS’s version was defective and clearly defective because it broke/wrecked computers!
This involved moreover several Bios and ASUS model … A few hundred PCs have been destroyed around the world but ASUS didn’t give any explanation or solution by passing everything in silence, hoping for no virals tweets…
The solution has come from … Reddit!
Luckily, after a month we have a new bios update.. and it is still there!
My personal setup
I personally own a 2014 asus n751jk laptop with a i7-4710HQ processor, 16gb RAM, nvidia gtx 850m graphic card and a samsung 860 evo ssd. I’m telling you this because it has several variants, and results may vary.
Since it is a dated, but still good laptop, I wanted to give a try to this 207 update .
Is a bios update worth or, does it make sense at all?
The bios manages all the hardware installed on your machine.
The more optimized is, the better will handle all the stuff.
Consider a laptop released year and years ago, perhaps with an old OS like windows 7 or 8. It is plausible that you may have a lot of issues if you try to install a newer OS, like windows 10.
A bios update may solve this compatibility issues or the so hated BSOD (Blue screen of death).
So, if you have an old laptop just like me, considering to update the bios is not a bad idea.
- Download Windows BIOS Flash Utility, you can find it in your device support page or take a look here
- Download bios update
- Flash it using the tool
Considerations about this new Asus bios 207 update
- Boot time has decreased approximately by one second ( from 3.2 to 2.5 seconds )
- Better fps in gaming. I play fortine in 1600×900 usually at stable 60-144fps (in closed rooms). With the new 207 update the minimal fps is increased a bit.
- Improved battery life
I don’t know if this is just a placebo effect, but honestly in the common usage I feel everything smoother and faster.
Have you tried it? If yes, comment out in box below!
